Math Matters!

Kaylee wanted to participate in the math matters competition, which is an outside of school event. There are about 300 5th and 6th graders that participate in taking a test and there are 10 winners. I was very proud of her for trying, as I said this is an outside of school event on a saturday morning, and there is no credit given from the school. She was very excited and felt good about her test. When all was said and done she placed 221. Now before you feel bad for that number let me tell you about the 1st place winner, she scored 85% and was 1st place (Does that explain the difficulty of the test?) What matters the most is that Kaylee enjoyed herself, and learned a little bit about competition. I rewarded her with Noodles and compant for lunch after, and Bradlee tagged along for the event, so he also was rewarded with lunch.

Bradlee and Kaylee have been working hard the last couple of weeks on their projects. Bradlee decided to do one about sport. "If you practice sports on the Wii would it imporve your actual game?" It turns out on Miniature golf it did not improve your game. Kaylee being left handed wanted to know more about it. "Lefties are in their right mind." Hers was taking a survey to see how many kids were left handed. She surveyed some of the kids in her school, and she did a great job with her information.

We had a great time at our Christmas breakfast with the Gurr side. I was given an awesome purse from Disneyland by Judy, and Jeff got more than just nerds, He got a buckle gift card from Mike. Meghan got Aeropostale gift certificates from Adam, while Bradlee got disney bucks from Jessica, and Kaylee got a Simba from Hayden. Everyone was happy with their gifts.

The Paulsen Christmas party is always a little chaotic, as we have so many people, and my house just isn't big enough. We exchanged gifts, and had tons of fun. Bryce and Shannon had us, and they spoiled us with personalized ice cream cups. Mine had Minnie Mouse, Jeff's had tennis shoes, Meghan;s had socks, Bradlee's had a guitar, and Kaylee's had a monkey. We also got an ice cream container that said Clark Characters on it. Such a wonderful gift. We had Bryce and Shannon's name. I made sock monkey's out of Bryce's socks, and Jeff made Bryce a colostomy bag cover.

Our "UP" tree was a great success, and it was so rewarding to see how many people enjoyed it. The reason we decided to dedicate the tree to Bryce was because as he fights his battle with Cancer, we are pleased and proud of his attitude. He continues to live life the best he can, and he is constantly being the one to remind people to stay positive, and he is determined to beat the disease.

Here is our Festival of the tree's tree that Jessica, Kimber, and Judy did. They were kind enough to let me help, and we had such a good time with it. They dedicated it to Bryce, and it turned out amazing. I am so lucky to have Kimber and Jessica as my wonderful cousins. They are more like sisters to me. And Judy is one of the nicest people I know, I am blessed to have her as my Aunt. Thanks for doing the tree and dedicating to my brother. You guys Rock!!!!!

Honoring Grandpa!

Here are some pictures of the funeral for Grandpa. It was a very moving military service. Grandma was given the flag. Very touching. I didn't have my camera, but we can always count on my Aunt Pam to be prepared. These pictures were once again stolen from my Cousin Nichole's blog. It was nice to meet people. I was excited to meet my dad's cousin Sheryl, I am friends with her on facebook, but we had never met... at least that I could remember. The service was beautiful.

Jeff decided he wanted to do the human race this year, so we put a team together. Nikki and Steven, Kimber, and Jeff and Jessica all joined us. It wa so much fun. Jeff placed 4th in his division while I was like 197th place in mine, but I just did the walk, Jeff did the 10k. I walked with Jessica, and man she is a speed walker, it might have been easier to just walk. Nikki and Steven walked it with a jog/fast walk and finished before Jessica and myself. Kimber did the 10k with Jeff and finished 16th in her division, and Jeff B ran the 10k also. So fun, thanks for coming guys! Thanks for taking pics nikki, yours were so cute on your blog I just stole yours. Thanks Again!!!

Has anyone had their own personal �superman�? We did!

Paul Herman Paulsen was born in Canton, Oklahoma to Herman and Beatrice Paulsen on May 8, 1923.

He was a decorated World War II Veteran and received the Bronze Star.

He married his sweetheart, Jewel Mickelsen, on July 3, 1956.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

He will be dearly missed by his loving wife and children, Marsha Devey (Michael), James (Jan), Michael (Sandy), Donald (Marva), Paul (Pam), Mary Ellen (Larry), and David. He was adored by his 19 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren; Survived by his sister, Louise.

Preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Agnes, Henry, Arthur, Walter, and Pat.

Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, at the Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 S. Redwood Rd. A Viewing will be held on hour prior to the services. Online condolences can be made at http://www.memorialutah.com./

Grandpa Paulsen

Grandpa Paulsen was such an amazing man. Everytime we would go on vacation we would stop and visit. Of course Grandpa and Grandma always tells us the same stories that I have heard one hundred times, and Jeff and I would always laugh as we were driving there, and talk about the stuff she was going to tell us. But I love it, and I wouldn't have traded the time with grandpa for anything. We went and visited in April, and grandpa comented on my car, I was in a new Ford Explorer, and Grandpa went on and on about how I finally have a good vehicle. He was a Ford man through and through! I was able to go visit him with Lydia and my dad just a few weeks ago. We wnt down to record some family history and stories as we knew he was sick and we felt it was important to document things grandpa had to say. He didn't talk much, but being there with him was wonderful. He would answer our questions when we asked, but Grandma did most of the talking. We went and had lunch in Mesquite, and just spent time with him. I will also hold that visit dear as Grandpa passed away Sunday morning. I was so grateful for the opportunity I had to go be with him one last time. I love you Grandpa!

The joy's of The Priesthood

Bradlee turned 12 on his birthday. For a boy that is a huge milestone, and kind of a big deal. On October 30th 2011 Bradlee was ordained by his Father Jeff Clark, A deacon in the Aronic Priesthood. It was very exciting as Jeff gave Bradlee a blessing on the importance of love. The word love was mentioned in his blessing many times, and also his sisters, and that he needs to make sure he shows love to them, and everyone around him. It was beautiful. I am so grateful I have a husband that was able to do this for our son. I love my guys! Also in the circle were Grandpa Paulsen, Grandpa Mcintosh, Jason Bailey, Bro. Price, a member of the bishopric, and Hal Westenskow, his teacher. I am a very proud Mamma! Great Job Bradlee.

No shoes can be a problem

Bradlee was at the park with no shoes on, and he got his foot caught between 2 pieces of wood on the playground.... The toenail was completely ripped off, and so was some of the skin. It will take awhile for it to be completely healed..... I just hope he learned the importance of keeping your shoes on.

My family(Kimber and Jessica) has decided to do a tree for the Festival of the Trees who's proceeds will go to Primary Children's Medical Center. This is a huge undertaking. If you have ever been to the festival, the trees are incredible. My family isn't the craftiest bunch, but with your help we think we can pull off a pretty amazing tree. We are keeping the theme a secret (because it will be so awesome we don't want others to steal our ideas), but I'll give you a hint, what does my family like more than anything?? Disney of course! We are dedicating the tree to my brother who is battling cancer right now and has such an amazing attitude. He is an inspiration.

The day the Mayonnaise disappeared

Chapter one: Leaving

One day I decided to run away. I had had enough, my siblings were driving me crazy, and school was getting way to overwelming! I packed up my hobo sack, grabbed the mayonnaise, and I was on my way.

I didn't have anywhere to go, no clue! I could walk downtown and join a homeless people gang, but I was just to lazy! I decided I could go live behind the dumpster at the stake center.

Chapter two: Where is the mayo?

At home, my parents FINALLY noticed I was gone. "Where is Meghan?" Bradlee asked.

"Probably downstairs in her room." Kaylee assumed.

"Nope" dad announced, "She ran away, here is a note I found on the computer."

"Finally!"" I can't believe we had to put up with her for fourteen years!" Mom exclaimed.

The family started laughing and cheering. Adding some music the celebration turned into a dance party.

Suddenly, Dad fell to his knees almost in tears.

"Dear, whats the matter?" mom asked worried and confused.

"She took the mayonnaise!" Bradlee and kaylee screamed in horror.

"Call 9-1-1" Mom yelled.

When dad dialed the number, the phone rang twice when a deep voiced cop answered, "Whats the problem?" " My daughter ran away from home!"

"I'll ask you one more time" shouted the cop. "What is your problem?"

"She took the mayonnaise!"

"Oh that is a serious matter sir, We will be there as soon as..........."

Ding-dong! The door bell rang

"That was fast" Bradlee said.

"thank goodness" exclaimed Kaylee.

Chapter 3: Next time I need a better hiding spot.

It's been my lucky day! I just found an old straw behind the dumpster. I sat drinking my jar of mayo. What a great dinner!

There was just one thing that I found kind of strange. There were cops everywhere you looked, helicopters clouded the sky, and a blimp that read, "Missing jar of Mayo."

"I really hope those people find their mayonnaise."

Suddenly a very muscular ninja parachuted down, landing right next to me. In one swift motion he unhooked the parachute, grabbed the mayo out of my hand, threw me in the dumpster, and ran away completely disappearing.

I guess I shouldn't have taken the mayonnaise! I smell like Bradlee's room, with a hint of subway. I also have to now walk home!

That is the last time I run away from home!

Meghan is now in 8th grade, and she was so excited for school to start
Kaylee is in 6th grade now, and she is somewhat happy about school starting
Bradlee also in 6th grade, and he would be happy if it was summer all the time, and he didn't have to go to school..... Maybe its a boy thing.
Bradlee and kaylee are in the same class this year, and sit right next to eachother..... We will see how that goes. Good luck Miss. Hafen, you might need it!

Last weekend of summer

With Jeff's grandma's funeral he had family in town, so Jeff and Bradlee took Jared on a hike up snowbird. Bradlee said it was really hard, and wanted to stop. But he stuck it out and made it to the top. Then came the easy part, they got to take the tram ride down.

Then we had a bbq with the whole family.

Verla Russell Shaw 1927 ~ 2011 Verla Russell Shaw, 84, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2011 in Spokane, WA. She was born May 12, 1927 in Ogden, Utah the daughter of Edgar and Mildred Hadlock Russell. Verla liked golfing, reading and cross stitch. She loved being around her family and friends. Verla never liked to be alone. She never complained and was always compassionate to others. Verla spent most of her working years as a waitress. She was gracious and was always a loving mother and grandmother. Surviving are her children, Connie Taylor, Vickie (Frank) Stevens, Greg (Kathy) Clark, Jan (Mark) Goldman, Susan (Jerry) Bryant, Allyson (Mark) King, 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, two brothers, Ken Russell and Boyd (RaLene) Russell. Preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Don, Earl and Ray Russell. Bradlee and Jeff went to Alaska with Greg. They drove there...... A very long drive...... 4 days long...... Drove through Canada, which Jeff said was gorgeous. They had a good time until they got stuck on the freeway for 6 hours and missed their flight home. That was a bad deal. There was an accident that caused the delay, and the airlines did nothing to help them get home. It ended up costing an extra $1000 to get home a day later. But at least they made it home safe.

Jeff caught this fish, but it didn't make it home due to the delay.

Richard W. Bell "Dick" W7TGC Dick was born on December 14, 1923 to Clarence L. Bell and Lara Ethel McPhail. He married his Sweetie Helen Nokes on January 9, 1944. Last call went out for Dick on Friday May 6, 2011, and he went on to climb his highest mountain. He was a Ham Radio Operator, since his early twenties and had remained so through the years He served in the Navy during World War II, as a Pharmacist's Mate. He was a house painter with his step-dad and brothers. Helped put a man on the moon while employed at Sperry Rand, was a TV and radio repairman, and a Telemetry Tech. He was an active member of the American Legion for many years. Dick was Mountaineer Director for the Wasatch Mountain Club for many years. Hiking and climbing mountains was his passion. His favorite place to visit was Zion National Park, and he called Lone Peak his mountain and admired it every morning. He was one of the first to climb the front face of Lone Peak, in the winter. Survived by wife, son Richard L. (Teddie) daughters, Linda Scroggin, Sue (Tom) Jones, Jeannie (Dennis) Hall, Sandy (Mike) Paulsen, Brother Arwin Provonsha. 19 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, Preceded in death by parents, brothers Thomas Bell and Fred G. Lacey and Jason had their beautiful baby girl on May 5, 2011. She was born at 11:19pm. Lacey was a trooper. After about 19 Hours of labor, and not dilating she had a c-section. Baby and mom did great and are in perfect health. Zoie is so cute, and she is a wonderful addition to our family.

Such a Slacker I am

I am really slackin on the blog updates, I am going to try and be better. Things have been good at the Clark house. Jeff and I have been working on spending more time as a family, and becoming closer. We have been going rollerblading with the kids on Tuesday nights at Hollywood connection. The kids seem to enjoy the time we spend with them there. Jeff and I have also taken up running. Jeff has been doing it for awhile now, and in the spirit of finding things incommon with one another, and trying to become closer I have joined him in the running adventure. I am enjoying it quite abit, and Jeff is borderline obsessed with it. He runs everyday for at least 3 miles, but he has been trying to run more, and can run 13 miles when he wants to. I on the other hand can only do the 3-4 miles, and a lot of it is spent walking, which works for me, and Jeff usually runs without me, and then goes a 2nd time with me, so he doesn't mind the walking. Because of the running, and both of us trying to find things the other one likes we have become a much stronger couple. We have been married for 14 years, and we share very little in common, so that is our goal, to find things we both like and share in them.

We just took our anual vacation, and after much begging and pleading we didn't go to Disneyland.... I know, Sad!!!! Jeff isn't as big of a Disney fan as me, and he wanted to go Camoing and Hiking, so we compromised. We went to Sea World, and Knotts Berry Farm, and then spend some nights in St. George going to Zion National Park. Which actually turned out to be the kids favorite. We hiked to Angels Landing which is a strenuos, very challenging hike that is somewhat dangerous as you have to hold on to chains to make it up the steep climb to reach the top of the peak. Kaylee and I only made it about half way, but the other kids and Jeff made it to the top, and loved the experiance. I am pleased we all survived! The vacation was much needed and wonderful.

Bryce is doing alright, we have had some ups and downs with his cancer, He was scheduled for surgery on May 20th, but some new developments have put the surgery on hold. He has to go back on Chemo for some heavy duty treament to try and get rid of some of the cancer that has now grown. He has affected lymph nodes in several parts of the body. The cancer is Growing very rapidly and they Dr's are hopeful with chemo they can reduce or stop it from growing so fast, and eliminate some of the tumors. We are staying positive, and Bryce is amazing. I have faith that he will fight the fight!

SALT LAKE CITY -- A man crashed his car into a Salt Lake City home Sunday, and then ran from officers. He was arrested a short time later. The family who lives in that home says the incident adds to an already challenging year.

Albino Gabriel Juak, 20, has a history of running from the law just like he did over the weekend. His rap sheet includes drug-related charges going back to 2009.

Police say Juak's reckless driving sent 31-year-old Curtis Howard to the hospital.

"The car coming through the front yard like that, kinda rockin' the world. It's like, you know, no way! All at the same time," Howard said.

Doctors diagnosed Howard with stage 4 colon cancer back in December and Sunday's incident was just one more thing to deal with.

The car came careening down the street, hit a parked Honda, and then hit a tree. That catapulted Juak's vehicle on top of a Toyota Corolla and Jaguar here. It also hit the house.

"A lot of us were hurt a little bit. But to hit him, after everything he's been through, it's just unbelievable that that would even happen, that we would all be in the yard at that time," said Shannon Howard, Curtis Howard's wife.

Along with his cancer treatments, doctors put seven staples in the back of Howard's head. Now he deals with headaches, body aches, and struggles to forgive the man who he says has added to his problems.

"(I'm) pretty pissed off, you know. He had to have known that he hit people. There were five people out in the front yard. He had to have known he hit me," Curtis Howard said.

His mother-in-law, Sharon Paro, saw the whole incident. She says she hopes what happened to her family can help Juak turn his life around

"I would love to talk to him and get more information. You know, learn a little bit of history," Paro said. "I'm sure he's got issues as well."

Police booked Juak on several charges, including hit-and-run, damaging property and bodily injury. Court documents show he was born in Ethiopia. His case could be turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

(KUTV) SALT LAKE CITY – Curtis Howard and his wife are thankful to be alive after a cop car chase led to the suspect vehicle being vaulted through the air and crashing into the couple and their 18-month-old niece Sunday.

The couple was in the front yard of their home near 251 E. Downington Ave in Salt Lake Sunday morning when a 20-year-old man was speeding away from officers when his car crashed into a tree – causing it fly through the air into their yard and hit the family’s vehicle.

“I don't remember hearing the screeching. Next thing I know is my wife's screaming, got her hand on my head, I have my feet up in the air and I'm on the front steps of the porch,” Curtis Howard told 2News from a hospital bed at the University Hospital Sunday night.

The suspect crashed into other cars and a tree and eventually hit them as they were getting into a car.

“I was in the Corolla that got hit,” said Curtis’ wife Shannon. “I was buckling in the car seat and just hit my head.”

A fractured scapula, seven staples in the head, other scratches bumps and bruises -- although not injuries to ignore -- with time will heal.

The couple hopes and prays the same will happen with the stage four colon cancer that has invaded Curtis' body.

“I have one more week of radiation and chemotherapy. And then I have a break for two months before surgery,” he said.

But in another six months, there will be another batch of chemo.

Curtis says his strength comes from his family, wanting to see his 5-year-old son grow up, and praying for more children with his wife.

“I’m trying to figure out what lesson we're learning here,” Shannon said. “I mean everything happens for a reason.”

“I think it was Lance Armstrong who said either give up or fight like hell,” Curtis said.

In order to raise funds for Curtis Bryce Howard’s battle with cancer, we will be having a benefit dinner with dutch oven lasagna, salad, vegetables, garlic bread and cookies for dessert. The tickets for dinner will be $10 each.

Life gets away from you sometimes!

I plan on adding a ton of stuff to my blog one of these days. I have alot of pictures to post, and all that has been going on with the kiddos. Fun Christmas stuff, and school activities to post about. But I just thought I would share a quick little tid bit.

Work is still crazy, I am always busy.
Jeff finally went to day shift after our 13 years of marriage, and that was a big adjustment for us. We had to learn to share the bed, and be together all night long. I am grateful for his hard work, and all he does for us, and I am appreciating him more and more each day.

The kids are doing well in school, Kaylee is playing the Clarinet, and did her first concert, which she did fantastic. I think she enjoys it. Meghan also plays the Clarinet, and had her first concert of the year, where she played First Clarinet, and loves it. She is loving her GT classes, and continues to strive in them with Straight A's. Bradlee is getting better at school, and learning to be a better student and not just a social bug. I am very proud of all their hard work that they do.

I would like to ask for some special prayers at this time for my family. My brother Bryce was just diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer. He goes in for surgery for a colostomy bag on Tuesday 12/28, and then he will start Chemo and Radiation. After that he will have another surgery. He will have some hard times ahead, and the family is here for support and anything we can do for them. I have faith that he and the family will make it through this difficult time. Shannon, Bryce's wife, has been amazing so far, and I am so greatful that my brother has found such a strong wonderful person to make it through this.

That is the update for now, but I will post more soon, and have pictures also. :)

I went to Disneyland with the girls again. This time we went in July, and we drove. I did all the driving, It was a long drive, but well worth it. We all had a blast, and I cant wait til I can go back.

A trip to the Cabin

We finally were able to make it to the cabin. This was the first time I had ever been to the cabin without Grandpa..... Without anyone actually. Thats right, we were able to enjoy the cabin just our little family. I have to say it was kinda nice having the cabin to ourselves. I do think it is fun having everyone there to though.

The kids enjoyed shooting at cans.... They even hit some.

I didn't have a great shot, but I had fun trying. I hit the target a few times.

And of course the kids couldn't wait to get on the Four Wheelers. I never could wait either when I was their age. We only had a minor injury. Bradlee tipped over, but he and the four wheeler are both ok, Minor bruises thats all.

We took the kids to Pirate island for their good grade. It was a fun place, the kids enjoyed pizza, Playing games, and looking in the gift shop. It was a fun family night.

The kids have had several projects from school the last few weeks. They had to build a biome with different animals and make it look like the enviroment they chose. Bradlee and Kaylee both chose the Mountains. They turned out great. Kaylee had to make something with different rocks. She and Jeff made Rocky. He turned out really good.

Meghan has straight A's on her report card, and Bradlee and Kaylee are quickly making their way up on the charts with some A's and B's. Good ob kids!

It has been very hectic in my life lately. The company I work for has been going through some changes, and I know have a new job title, and I have become more busy at work. I haven't had any additional time for much else. I don't have new pictures to post, but I have one that I wanted to post. I have the best Aunts a girl could ask for. They are the most wonderful women ever. We went to Disneyland in October and in memory of our fabulous trip Judy gave me this ornament for Christmas, and I love it. That trip was so much fun, and it came at such a great time. We had Grandpa's funeral just a week before we left, and I think that it was a blessing to have that trip planned when we did. I have thought alot about grandpa lately, and how much I miss him. Anyway, I hope work calms down some over the next little while, and I can get back to normal.

Christmas is a little different this year. Grandpa is gone, and I noticed the void at the Christmas party this year. I miss him so much..... But Christmas is coming anyway..... Santa and Mrs. Claus came to ask the kids what they wanted for Christmas. Kaylee asked for a Nintendo DSi. Bradlee asked for another Light Saber because 3 isn't enough apparently. Meghan is such a weird child. She asked for a pair a sneakers because the bottom of her closet isn't full enough.
I asked for my kids to be happy.... And for Jeff not to get his present... (You'll See why)
