Grandpa Bell
Richard W. Bell "Dick" W7TGC Dick was born on December 14, 1923 to Clarence L. Bell and Lara Ethel McPhail. He married his Sweetie Helen Nokes on January 9, 1944. Last call went out for Dick on Friday May 6, 2011, and he went on to climb his highest mountain. He was a Ham Radio Operator, since his early twenties and had remained so through the years He served in the Navy during World War II, as a Pharmacist's Mate. He was a house painter with his step-dad and brothers. Helped put a man on the moon while employed at Sperry Rand, was a TV and radio repairman, and a Telemetry Tech. He was an active member of the American Legion for many years. Dick was Mountaineer Director for the Wasatch Mountain Club for many years. Hiking and climbing mountains was his passion. His favorite place to visit was Zion National Park, and he called Lone Peak his mountain and admired it every morning. He was one of the first to climb the front face of Lone Peak, in the winter. Survived by wife, son Richard L. (Teddie) daughters, Linda Scroggin, Sue (Tom) Jones, Jeannie (Dennis) Hall, Sandy (Mike) Paulsen, Brother Arwin Provonsha. 19 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, Preceded in death by parents, brothers Thomas Bell and Fred G. Allen. Visitation will be Monday May 16th, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Broomhead Funeral Home, 12600 So. 2200 W. Riverton.
